STEVE J YONI P S/S 10 AT LFW

Getting a little fashion frazzled round the edges we made our way to the Korean Cultural Center to see the presentation by design duo Steve J Yoni P, as with recent collections they presented an ethereal performance piece. The models stood or sat static around the stage whilst a harpist pplayed a eerie lingering tune. As a design duo producing and showing Men’s and women’s together at times it gets a little difficult to define if there is a singular look or theme that defines what they do. This time round the look was gentle tailoring and draping with a slightly twisted and pulled element for the girls in fitted dresses, neat skirts and looser sheath dresses and an unstructured relaxed preppiness for the boys, with cropped khaki shorts, blazers and collarless shirts with raw edges, discreet and neat. Outside the performance a selection of garments were shown layed out on a table , suspended from walls, hanging form giant stuffed fleshy arms and bodies. This was were the Steve J Yoni P presentation got exciting, the beautiful detailing and drape could be examined and the coordinates for women of support stockings and knitted jersey bra helped in imagining a fuller identity. Their showroom stand the next day was another opportunity to consider further all the pieces and how they work as a range, plenty to feel positive about even if a little more clarity is needed.
