RICHARD SORGER A/W ’09 LAUNCH AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE

Slashstroke  Magazine caught up with Richard Sorger’s launch of his A/W 09 collection at the West side’s high end little haven, The Convenience Store on Wednesday night.

Sorger’s signature pieces adorned the somewhat unconventional shop space, which cozied people in with a friendly glass of vino, some good ol’tunes and some stunning creations. Richard Sorger established his label in 2004, and has since adorned the likes of Florence of Florence and the Machine, Courtney Love and Diamanda Galas, amongst others. T-shirt style dresses dazzled under the weight of intricate embellishments, motifs including animal skeletons, graphic elements brought out in 3D, and flea appliqués on skirts and tops. Particular hits were the Alphabet dresses – that will be made to order only – which featured an oversized embroidery letter of choice in an über-impact typeface I believe resembles a ‘Rosewood Std’, which Richard took to a whole new level with his eye for detail. Richard has collaborated with Meadham Kirchoff and ASOS and one of his dresses was also featured in the ‘Telling Tales: Fear and Fantasy in Contemporary Design’ exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum earlier this year. He has also co-authored a book called ‘The Fundamentals of Fashion’.

So look out, boys and girls, the king of understated chic is on the loose!
